Five Rising Models Without a Famous Last Name

What started out as a routine blog photo shoot at a newsstand turned into a major warm and fuzzy moment for me. What’s so uplifting about glossy tabloids and inky newsprint, you wonder? Well, the types of people represented on these pages made me feel like the world as a whole, including the fashion industry, is slowly but surely changing for the better despite all the horrible things we know are happening each day. From Serena Williams on the cover of InStyle to Mindy Kaling covering Shape and Winnie Harlow on the cover of Marie Claire Brazil, talented, non-conforming women of color set the September covers of leading publications ablaze. September was also “Fashion Month” and this year many designers made more conscious efforts to diversify their model roster. The result is countless new faces in the modeling world that will leave the reigning Jenner, Hadids, and Gerber quaking in their boots. Here are five models to keep an eye out for as fashion continues it necessary process of diversification.

Saffron Vadher– Her luscious, thick eyebrows will catch your eye first, then her bright smile will make you keep staring. Saffron covered the September 2018 cover of Vogue India, marking a huge milestone in any model’s career.

Shanelle Nyasiase– If you want to see what “cheekbones for days” looks like, take at look at this absolute babe. Shanelle’s facial bone structure is perfection, her off-duty style cool as can be, and her social media persona sweet as a button!

Marquita Pring– A naturally curly-haired girl like myself, Marquita is one of the many non-size zero models changing the shape of high fashion. She has been killing it in magazines and on runway since the age of 15 and she doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

Yoon Young Bae– One minute she is fresh-faced and dewy, the next grungy and angst-ridden. This girl is a master of versatility and in the modeling world, especially for editorials, that is a trait that will take her far!

Mayowa Nicholas– I love a defined jawline and Mayowa has got just that. Combined with porcelain skin, she has a unique face that has the power to take the fashion world by storm.
