Royal Day Out in Aranjuez, SP

Back in September, I went on a day trip to Aranjuez, Spain. Approximately 30 miles from the center of Madrid, Aranjuez is home to a huge royal palace built between the 16th and 18th centuries. Vast, forest-like gardens surround the palace and I was lucky enough to spend lots of time strolling these grounds and taking pictures. Unfortunately, though, no photos were allowed inside the palace, so I can’t share with you any images of the palace’s brightly colored furniture, luxurious textiles, world-class artwork, and international-inspired architecture (there’s a beautiful salón árabe that was used by men for smoking and a gallery covered completely from ceiling to floor with small, porcelain chinoiserie statues). If you find yourself in Madrid, I highly recommend a day trip to Aranjuez to see these things for yourself.

I hope you enjoy these photos of the town of Aranjuez and of the exterior and the gardens of the palace. Be sure to leave me a comment if you have visited or want to go!
