One of the highlights of this summer was my trip to Mexico! To celebrate my mother’s 50th birthday, her, my father, my sister, and I jetted off to wonderful CDMX (aka Mexico City), marking our first time in Mexico. Our six-day trip included a street-food tour, a day trip to San Miguel de Allende (named “The Best City in the World” by Travel + Leisure in 2017 and I have a hard time disagreeing), a visit back in time to the Teotihuacan pyramids (I learned about the site in an anthropology course a few months back at college, so seeing them in real life was a surreal experience), and, of course, lots of churros. The weather there was pristine: barely any humidity and nothing more than a few drops of rain (heavy showers are the norm during summer months). The food was largely delicious (what could be better than fresh mangos and avocados everyday?), with the biggest standout being a seafood feast at a restaurant called De Mar a Mar (I’ve included photos of that meal below).
If you ever find yourself looking for a warm and interesting place to visit, I highly recommend Mexico City. So many people asked me why my family was going to Mexico City (as opposed to beach destinations like Cabo or Cancún), but after visiting CDMX and taking amazing day trips, visiting plentiful museums, eating awesome food, meeting friendly people, seeing beautiful architecture, and doing so much more, I can’t imagine NOT going to Mexico City!
