Three Books I Love

Inspired by a recent trip to my town’s public library (where I of course had to get the outfit photo below), here are three of my favorite books. If you’ve not read them, definitely add them to your book wish list (who else has one of these?) and pick one up the next time you’re looking for a new read to dive into!

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Before I even touched The Kite Runner (TKR; another fabulous book), I dove into Khaled Hosseini’s oeuvre with A Thousand Splendid Suns. Unlike TKR, which focuses on two men, this novel shines the spotlight on two women who become unlikely allies in post-Taliban Afghanistan. Just as TKR exposed audiences to the humanity of war-torn Afghani people, A Thousand Splendid Suns does the same, but through fresh pairs of eyes. It is also just as complex (in the right way), emotionally engaging, and thought-provoking as Hosseini’s infamous début novel, making it as worthy, if not more so, of a read.

The Family Under the Bridge Novel by Natalie Savage Carlson

I’m fairly certain I read this book for the first time when I was in fifth grade, but the fact that I’m mentioning it on a list when I’m 21-years old shows just how much of an impression it had on me. Touching on the topics of homelessness and family, this children’s book will give you all the warm and fuzzies. It’s a quick read for older audiences, but if you know any book-hungry kids, give this to them and I guarantee it will instill the value of not judging people by how they look or what they have.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

Last, but not least, on this list is a more light-hearted memoir by comedian, writer, actress, and lots more-extraordinaire Mindy Kaling. Kaling guides readers through the defining moments of her life, from sororities at Dartmouth to writing rooms in Hollywood. It’s a laugh-riot that hits you with witty insights when you least expect it, making it a fast and fun read.

I quite enjoyed writing this post and I might do it again, but I really need more books to share! So, let me know in the comments which books you love so I can start reading and sharing more delightful books with you all!
